FAQ
Common questions, clear answers.
Everything we get asked about GLP-1 telehealth, costs, safety, and how MatchGLP works.
What is a GLP-1 medication?+
GLP-1 receptor agonists are medications that mimic gut hormones to slow stomach emptying, blunt appetite, and improve blood sugar regulation. Semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy) and tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound) are the most prescribed for weight management in the United States.
Is it safe to get a GLP-1 prescription through telehealth?+
Telehealth GLP-1 prescribing is legal in the US when handled by a licensed clinician in your state and filled by a licensed pharmacy. Safety depends on the quality of screening and follow-up. Our comparison only includes providers with US-licensed clinicians.
What's the difference between semaglutide and tirzepatide?+
Both reduce appetite and drive weight loss. Tirzepatide adds a second receptor mechanism (GIP) and tends to produce larger average weight loss at the highest dose, but typically costs more. Semaglutide is more widely available and usually cheaper through telehealth.
How much does GLP-1 telehealth cost per month?+
Most cash-pay providers charge $79–$300/month for semaglutide and $99–$400/month for tirzepatide. First-month promotional pricing is common; always compare the ongoing rate, not the intro price.
Does insurance cover GLP-1 telehealth?+
Most cash-pay GLP-1 telehealth providers do not bill insurance. A few accept partial coverage for the clinician visit. If your employer plan covers Wegovy or Zepbound, a traditional clinic is usually cheaper.
What are the most common side effects?+
Mild to moderate GI symptoms — nausea, constipation, reduced appetite, occasional reflux — especially in the first weeks of a new dose. Most fade with slow titration, hydration, and smaller meals.
Who should not take a GLP-1?+
People with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2 should not take GLP-1s. People who are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding are typically advised against them. Discuss thyroid, pancreatic, and gallbladder history with your clinician.
Can I cancel a GLP-1 telehealth subscription anytime?+
It depends on the provider. Some are month-to-month and cancellable any time; others require a minimum commitment. Our comparison table flags subscription terms for each provider.
What's compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide?+
Compounded versions are prepared by licensed 503A or 503B pharmacies, usually at lower cost than brand-name Wegovy or Zepbound. Compounding is legal when an FDA shortage applies. Confirm with your provider exactly what they dispense.
Is MatchGLP free to use?+
Yes. MatchGLP earns affiliate commissions when you sign up with some providers through our links, at no extra cost to you. Commissions do not influence rankings, the quiz, or editorial coverage.
